Surah 2 · Verse 233

وَالْوَالِدَاتُwal-wālidātuAnd the mothersيُرْضِعْنَyur'ḍiʿ'nashall suckleاَوْلَادَهُنَّawlādahunnatheir childrenحَوْلَيْنِḥawlayni(for) two yearsكَامِلَيْنِkāmilaynicompleteلِمَنْlimanfor whoeverاَرَادَarādawishesاَنْantoيُـتِمَّyutimmacompleteالرَّضَاعَةَۜl-raḍāʿatathe sucklingوَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd uponالْمَوْلُودِl-mawlūdithe fatherلَهُlahu(on) himرِزْقُهُنَّriz'quhunna(is) their provisionوَكِسْوَتُهُنَّwakis'watuhunnaand their clothingبِالْمَعْرُوفِۜbil-maʿrūfiin a fair mannerلَاlāNotتُكَلَّفُtukallafuis burdenedنَفْسٌnafsunany soulاِلَّاillāexceptوُسْعَهَاۚwus'ʿahāits capacityلَاlāNotتُضَٓارَّtuḍārramade to sufferوَالِدَةٌwālidatun(the) motherبِوَلَدِهَاbiwaladihābecause of her childوَلَاwalāand notمَوْلُودٌmawlūdun(the) fatherلَهُlahu(be)بِوَلَدِه۪biwaladihibecause of his childوَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd onالْوَارِثِl-wārithithe (father's) heirمِثْلُmith'lu(is a duty) likeذٰلِكَۚdhālikathat (of the father)فَاِنْfa-inThen ifاَرَادَاarādāthey both desireفِصَالاًfiṣālanweaningعَنْʿanthroughتَرَاضٍtarāḍinmutual consentمِنْهُمَاmin'humāof both of themوَتَشَاوُرٍwatashāwurinand consultationفَلَاfalāthen noجُنَاحَjunāḥablameعَلَيْهِمَاۜʿalayhimāon both of themوَاِنْwa-inAnd ifاَرَدْتُمْaradttumyou wantاَنْantoتَسْتَرْضِعُٓواtastarḍiʿūask another women to suckleاَوْلَادَكُمْawlādakumyour childفَلَاfalāthen (there is) noجُنَاحَjunāḥablameعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon youاِذَاidhāwhenسَلَّمْتُمْsallamtumyou payمَٓاmāwhatاٰتَيْتُمْātaytumyou giveبِالْمَعْرُوفِۜbil-maʿrūfiin a fair mannerوَاتَّقُواwa-ittaqūAnd fearاللّٰهَl-lahaAllahوَاعْلَمُٓواwa-iʿ'lamūand knowاَنَّannathatاللّٰهَl-lahaAllahبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou doبَص۪يرٌbaṣīrun(is) All-Seer
