Surah 2 · Verse 83

وَاِذْwa-idhAnd whenاَخَذْنَاakhadhnāWe tookم۪يثَاقَmīthāqa(the) covenantبَن۪ٓيbanī(from the) Childrenاِسْرَٓائ۪لَis'rāīla(of) IsraelلَاlāNotتَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou will worshipاِلَّاillāexceptاللّٰهَl-lahaAllahوَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِwabil-wālidayniand with [the] parentsاِحْسَاناًiḥ'sānan(be) goodوَذِيwadhīand (with)الْقُرْبٰىl-qur'bārelativesوَالْيَتَامٰىwal-yatāmāand [the] orphansوَالْمَسَاك۪ينِwal-masākīniand the needyوَقُولُواwaqūlūand speakلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito [the] peopleحُسْناًḥus'nangoodوَاَق۪يمُواwa-aqīmūand establishالصَّلٰوةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَاٰتُواwaātūand giveالزَّكٰوةَۜl-zakatathe zakahثُمَّthummaThenتَوَلَّيْتُمْtawallaytumyou turned awayاِلَّاillāexceptقَل۪يلاًqalīlana fewمِنْكُمْminkumof youوَاَنْتُمْwa-antumand you (were)مُعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūnarefusing
