Surah 20 · Verse 47

So come to him and say, "We are messengers from your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel, and do not punish them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord, and peace be upon those who follow the guidance."

Translation endnotes

[20:47-49] Without repeating the divine instructions dictated to Moses, we are presented with Pharaoh's answer. The language and narrative of the Quran is deliberately left with gaps, so that the reader can actively participate in its comprehension through sound inferences and harmless imagination. Thus, not only is "unnecessary" repetition avoided, but the brain of the reader is stimulated. The Quran does not like a passive reader, and a lazy reader does not enjoy the Quran either. For other examples of scene overlaps, see 12:83; 26:16-18.
