Surah 4 · Verse 153

يَسْـَٔلُكَyasalukaAsk youاَهْلُahlu(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِl-kitābi(of) the Bookاَنْanthatتُنَزِّلَtunazzilayou bring downعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themكِتَاباًkitābana bookمِنَminafromالسَّمَٓاءِl-samāithe heavenفَقَدْfaqadThen indeedسَاَلُواsa-alūthey (had) askedمُوسٰٓىmūsāMusaاَكْبَرَakbaragreaterمِنْminthanذٰلِكَdhālikathatفَقَالُٓواfaqālūfor they saidاَرِنَاarināShow usاللّٰهَl-lahaAllahجَهْرَةًjahratanmanifestlyفَاَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuso struck themالصَّاعِقَةُl-ṣāʿiqatuthe thunderboltبِظُلْمِهِمْۚbiẓul'mihimfor their wrongdoingثُمَّthummaThenاتَّخَذُواittakhadhūthey tookالْعِجْلَl-ʿij'lathe calf (for worship)مِنْminfromبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]جَٓاءَتْهُمُjāathumucame to themالْبَيِّنَاتُl-bayinātuthe clear proofsفَعَفَوْنَاfaʿafawnāthen We forgave themعَنْʿanforذٰلِكَۚdhālikathatوَاٰتَيْنَاwaātaynāAnd We gaveمُوسٰىmūsāMusaسُلْطَاناًsul'ṭānanan authorityمُب۪يناًmubīnanclear
