وَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heالَّذ۪يalladhī(is) the One Whoيَتَوَفّٰيكُمْyatawaffākumtakes your (soul)بِالَّيْلِbi-al-layliby the nightوَيَعْلَمُwayaʿlamuand He knowsمَاmāwhatجَرَحْتُمْjaraḥtumyou committedبِالنَّهَارِbil-nahāriby the dayثُمَّthummaThenيَبْعَثُـكُمْyabʿathukumHe raises you upف۪يهِfīhithereinلِيُقْضٰٓىliyuq'ḍāso that is fulfilledاَجَلٌajalun(the) termمُسَمًّىۚmusammanspecifiedثُمَّthummaThenاِلَيْهِilayhito Himمَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukumwill be your returnثُمَّthummathenيُنَبِّئُكُمْyunabbi-ukumHe will inform youبِمَاbimāabout whatكُنْتُمْkuntumyou used toتَعْمَلُونَ۟taʿmalūnadoHe is the One who takes you at night, and He knows what you have done during the day, then He sends you back to it until a fixed span; then to Him is your return and He will inform you of what you used to do.Translation endnotes[6:60] See 39:42.
