Surah 7 · Verse 163

وَسْـَٔلْهُمْwasalhumAnd ask themعَنِʿaniaboutالْقَرْيَةِl-qaryatithe townالَّت۪يallatīwhichكَانَتْkānatwasحَاضِرَةَḥāḍiratasituatedالْبَحْرِۢl-baḥri(by) the seaاِذْidhwhenيَعْدُونَyaʿdūnathey transgressedفِيfīinالسَّبْتِl-sabtithe (matter of) Sabbathاِذْidhwhenتَأْت۪يهِمْtatīhimcame to themح۪يتَانُهُمْḥītānuhumtheir fishيَوْمَyawma(on the) dayسَبْتِهِمْsabtihim(of) their Sabbathشُرَّعاًshurraʿanvisiblyوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (on the) dayلَاlānotيَسْبِتُونَۙyasbitūnathey had Sabbathلَاlā(they did) notتَأْت۪يهِمْۚtatīhimcome to themكَذٰلِكَkadhālikaThusنَبْلُوهُمْnablūhumWe test themبِمَاbimābecauseكَانُواkānūthey wereيَفْسُقُونَyafsuqūnadefiantly disobeying
