Surah 8 · Verse 42

اِذْidhWhenاَنْتُمْantumyou (were)بِالْعُدْوَةِbil-ʿud'wation side of the valleyالدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe nearerوَهُمْwahumand theyبِالْعُدْوَةِbil-ʿud'wati(were) on the sideالْقُصْوٰىl-quṣ'wāthe fartherوَالرَّكْبُwal-rakbuand the caravanاَسْفَلَasfala(was) lowerمِنْكُمْۜminkumthan youوَلَوْwalawAnd ifتَوَاعَدْتُمْtawāʿadttumyou (had) made an appointmentلَاخْتَلَفْتُمْla-ikh'talaftumcertainly you would have failedفِيfīinالْم۪يعَادِۙl-mīʿādithe appointmentوَلٰكِنْwalākinButلِيَقْضِيَliyaqḍiyathat might accomplishاللّٰهُl-lahuAllahاَمْراًamrana matterكَانَkāna(that) wasمَفْعُولاًۙmafʿūlandestinedلِيَهْلِكَliyahlikathat (might be) destroyedمَنْman(those) whoهَلَكَhalaka(were to be) destroyedعَنْʿanonبَيِّنَةٍbayyinatina clear evidenceوَيَحْيٰىwayaḥyāand (might) liveمَنْman(those) whoحَيَّḥayya(were to) liveعَنْʿanonبَيِّنَةٍۜbayyinatina clear evidenceوَاِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedاللّٰهَl-lahaAllahلَسَم۪يعٌlasamīʿun(is) All-Hearingعَل۪يمٌۙʿalīmunAll-Knowing
