يَٓا yā O اَيُّهَا ʾaayyuhā you who believe الَّذ۪ينَ alladhīna O you who believe اٰمَنُٓوا āmanū O you who believe اِنَّ inna Indeed كَث۪يراً kathīran many مِنَ mina of الْاَحْبَارِ l-aḥbāri the rabbis وَالرُّهْبَانِ wal-ruh'bāni and the monks لَيَأْكُلُونَ layakulūna surely eat اَمْوَالَ amwāla (the) wealth النَّاسِ l-nāsi (of) the people بِالْبَاطِلِ bil-bāṭili in falsehood وَيَصُدُّونَ wayaṣuddūna and hinder عَنْ ʿan from سَب۪يلِ sabīli (the) way اللّٰهِۜ l-lahi (of) Allah وَالَّذ۪ينَ wa-alladhīna And those who يَكْنِزُونَ yaknizūna hoard الذَّهَبَ l-dhahaba the gold وَالْفِضَّةَ wal-fiḍata and the silver وَلَا walā and (do) not يُنْفِقُونَهَا yunfiqūnahā spend it ف۪ي fī in سَب۪يلِ sabīli (the) way اللّٰهِۙ l-lahi (of) Allah فَبَشِّرْهُمْ fabashir'hum [so] give them tidings بِعَذَابٍ biʿadhābin of a punishment اَل۪يمٍۙ alīmin painful
O you who acknowledge, many of the scholars and priests consume people's money in falsehood, and they turn away from the path of God. Those who hoard gold and silver, and do not spend it in the cause of God, give them news of a painful retribution.
